Everyone has secrets. And some people will do anything to keep them...
Vivienne's surprise birthday party quickly becomes a nightmare for her friends and family as they try to conceal the devastating news just left on her answerphone...!
"I Just Broke Up" is a modern-day farce, originally produced & written by the acclaimed Omada Drassis (Action Team) Theatre Company in Greece. It was a smash hit in Athens, where it premiered and ran to sell-out audiences for nearly five years and was seen by over 60,000 people.
In partnership with Omada Drassis, eclectic theatre company translated and adapted the play from the Greek original. The company has completed a very successful run at the White Bear Theatre, London, directed by Vassilis Mirianthopoulos - the original show's director and writer.
Excerpts from reviews of the show:
"(After) a strong, pacy start and an exceptional monologue from Shannon Fairchild...Act 2 was a riot of superb comic timing, great performances and inspired directing. The addition of a couple of characters brought a cohesiveness and energy...Special mention must go to Manolis Emmanouel who without uttering a word of English was captivatingly funny, Simon Bubb whose character came to life in the second half provoking delighted reaction from the packed auditorium, and Gavin Molloy for a brave, thrilling and highly entertaining dance sequence! I would...see it again!"

"One of the many hilarious moments of the show is when Vittor (Manolis Emmanouel) launches into a diatribe in Spanish. Vittor is hilariously well played as an ever-hungry stud, who becomes the spurned lover of "slapper" Lu (Georgina North)...The plot follows 10 characters, all of which are dealing with a lost love, from the main character Vivian (Emma Scholes) who is dumped by answering machine to the Pizza Boy (Gavin Molloy) [who] is energetic and loveable...There is so much energy from this exceptionally talented cast that watching I Just Broke Up makes for an exceptionally lively evening. The laughter never stops. The set is brilliant, and changes regularly. The costumes are very precise, even down to the under garments, and the bottles are always full of alcohol. All audience members...will have the most enjoyable time they've had for several months. I certainly did."

"Eclectic have assembled a fine cast of young actors...Maira Vazeou's wonderfully detailed design of young twentysomethings' central London flat is a true delight, adding to the 'fun and games' of the evening. Shannon Fairchild shows expert comic timing as the over-zealous Yvonne, while Gavin Molloy demonstrates a higher level of training as a shy 'pizza boy' dragged in to a night of shenanigans...
There was more than enough...to suggest that the London theatregoers are well advised to keep abreast of future Eclectic productions"
